Dental Emergencies in Kansas City, KS

What is an emergency?

An emergency is when you are experiencing severe pain or bleeding, broken or loose teeth, or an object caught between your teeth.

When should you visit the emergency room?

An emergency dentist should be your first call if your oral injury is severe or you have a broken jaw.

What are common dental emergencies?

Accidents happen. If you’re in the dental chair, it’s usually for a good reason. But, sometimes, things don’t always go according to plan. We’ve compiled some information to help you manage your dental emergencies.

What to do when a tooth is knocked out?

Don't touch the roots of the tooth. You may rinse the tooth with water, but be careful not to remove any tissue fragments. If possible, gently insert and hold the tooth in its socket. If this isn't possible, put the tooth in a cup of milk and call us immediately.

What to do when a tooth is chipped or fractured?

If a tooth is completely knocked out, try to find it. Hold the tooth by the crown, and gently rinse off the root of the tooth in water. DO NOT scrub or remove any attached tissue fragments. If possible, gently insert and hold the tooth in its socket. If that isn’t possible, place the tooth in a cup of milk or saliva, or a product containing cell growth medium, such as Save-A-Tooth. Immediately call your dentist Kansas City, KS. The faster you act, the better your chances of saving the tooth.

What to do when a tooth is loosened or displaced?

If the tooth is merely loosened, try to find the tooth back in place. Handle the tooth by the top (crown), not the root portion. You may rinse the tooth with water only. Do not use soap or any other cleaning agent. If this is not possible, put the tooth in a cup of milk.
